Petty Tyrants

Don Juan said that "Impeccability is nothing more than the proper use of energy." The seers of the Spanish Conquest, the unquestionable masters of stalking, had developed a strategy for removing self-importance. There are six elements in this strategy, five of which are the attributes of a warrior–control, discipline, forbearance, timing and will. The sixth element is exterior to the warrior–the Petty Tyrant– pinche tyrano.

"Just what is a Petty Tyrant, Don Juan?" I asked.

"A petty tyrant is a tormentor," he said. "Someone who holds the power of life or death over warriors or simply annoys them to distraction." Carlos Castaneda– The Fire From Within
